Navigating your Numeral dashboard

This article provides an overview of the key tools and actions available in your Numeral dashboard, helping you make the most of your account.

Written by Sadie Rudiger

Your Numeral dashboard is organized around the left-hand menu: Home, Jurisdictions, Filings, Exemptions, Connections, and Settings. A few more tabs show up depending on your account — more on those below. This article covers what's available once you're through Setup. If you're still working through your checklist, see Setting Up Your Numeral Dashboard for the step-by-step version first — and for the bigger picture of how your account moves from onboarding to autopilot, start with Your Roadmap From Onboarding to Autopilot.

Home

Your business name sits in the top-left corner — if you manage more than one Numeral profile, this is also where you switch between them. Home is your homebase once Setup is behind you: a Tasks card lists anything still open, each with a due-in-N-days countdown that becomes Overdue if it's not handled — things like connecting a store, finishing your company details, adding a location, or setting up your virtual mailbox, each linking straight to where you complete it. Below that, you'll see recent activity and a snapshot of your jurisdictions and connections.

A task like "Finish your company details" can still show up here even after Setup is marked done — that's a separate, ongoing check Numeral runs on your company profile, not a sign Setup didn't save. See Setting Up Your Numeral Dashboard for what that check looks at and where to fix it.

Jurisdictions

See where you're exposed, registered, or have a registration in progress, and manage registrations, transfers, and login credentials from here. Use the Exposed / Processing / Registered / All tabs to filter, and Register or Continue on any state to act on it — Manage registrations in the top right handles several at once. Autoregister turns on automatic registration as soon as you trigger nexus in a new state — toggle it from the top-right corner of this tab.

You'll need an EIN on file before you can register in any U.S. state — the Register button stays disabled until then. States that need more from you before we can register show as Requires more info, and your sidebar shows a count whenever something's waiting there.

🟡 Turning on Autoregister doesn't retroactively start registrations for states where you've already crossed nexus — you'll need to request those manually first. Only states you trigger nexus in afterward start automatically.

Filings

Review and approve current filings, look up historical ones, and export your sales tax data as a CSV. Current moves a return through Payments due, Preparing, Ready for review, Approved to file, and Filed; All is your full history; Backfilings covers anything from before you joined Numeral. If you sell internationally, you can switch a filing's display to its original currency.

🟢 With Autofile on, your regular returns are reviewed and submitted automatically before each deadline — nothing to do unless you want to reject one first.

Amendments and backfilings are different: they always wait for your approval (Autofile or not). NOTE: An unreviewed backfiling is canceled rather than filed, so don't let those sit.

Sales

This tab only appears if you upload sales manually instead of (or alongside) a connected store — if everything comes in through a connection like Shopify or Stripe, you won't see it at all. Use it to upload anything that doesn't flow in automatically.

🔴 Manual sales data has to be uploaded by the 5th of the month to be included in that month's filing. Data received after the deadline will be excluded from the filing calculation.

Exemptions

Our Exemption Certificate Management (ECM) tool handles exemption certificates for you — upload your customers and their certificates in bulk, and we track expiration and chase renewals automatically. Don't see this tab yet? Message us and we'll turn it on.

Connections

Add, reconnect, sync, or remove any store or integration linked to your dashboard. All of your sales should flow through Numeral, including marketplace sales like eBay or Amazon — most states count those toward your nexus even when the marketplace already remits tax on your behalf. If you sell on Shopify, this is also where you manage your collaborator code and which sales channels and products are included.

Settings

Company

Tax

  • Product categories: Set your default tax category.

  • Credentials: Manage state tax portal logins under Needs attention or Saved.

  • Exemptions: Manage your ECM settings.

  • Remittance: Configure international tax payments. *Only shown for international filers.

Account

  • General: Manage your primary contact and check your virtual mailbox status. When your virtual mailbox is enabled, Numeral monitors your tax-related mail and acts on items that need attention.

  • Users: Invite or remove teammates and manage individual email notification preferences.

  • Billing: Manage the payment method for Numeral's invoices. This is separate from your tax remittance bank account — remittance funds go directly to the tax jurisdictions you file in, not to Numeral. For more details, see Numeral's Fee Structure.

Sales Date Settings

Determines which date is used to assign each sale to a filing period: invoice date, payment date, or fulfillment date. This is typically configured during onboarding. If you’re an existing client and need to review or change it, message Customer Support.

Other tabs you may see

Depending on your account setup, you may also have access to:

  • Developers: Manage API keys, view logs, and configure product categorization if you use Numeral’s tax engine API in your own checkout flow.

  • Payments: Manage international tax payments. Only available to international filers.

  • Reports: Access available tax and sales reports.
