Numeral handles both the filing and the payment for your international tax obligations. Payment happens one of two ways depending on your account: automated through our Settle product, or a manual wire you send yourself. This article covers both—how to check your payment status either way and why we recommend Settle where it's available.
Automated payments through Settle
Settle lets Numeral remit your tax payments directly from your bank account through our licensed payments partner, Airwallex.
Once a filing is approved, the payment becomes available to review in your dashboard and you'll get a notification. Review it, click Pay, and Numeral pulls the funds, pays the authority, and tracks the payment through to confirmation, all visible in your dashboard next to the filing itself. No wires to send, no manual payment entry.
Is Settle available for my account?
Settle is currently available if your company's bank account is based in Canada or Singapore. If it is, you can use it to automate payments into any jurisdiction we currently support.
If your bank account is based elsewhere, automated payments aren't available yet; broader coverage is on our roadmap. Until then, you'll use the manual approval flow below, and we'll let you know as soon as it's available for your account.
Turning on Settle
Go to Settings → Tax → Remittance → International payments and select Get Started
Complete a short Know Your Customer (KYC) step confirming your business and business-owner details — usually 20 to 40 minutes, plus a couple of business days for review
Connect your bank account and whitelist Airwallex for direct debits (Automated Clearing House, or ACH, Vendor ID 1371913769)
Choose which jurisdictions to automate. All available jurisdictions are on by default — we recommend leaving them that way so every eligible payment gets Settle's protection, but you can turn any off and change this anytime in your Remittance settings
Manual payment approval
Once you approve a filing, the payment appears under Outstanding payments in your Numeral dashboard.
Click View Details → Then How to remit for the wire instructions — the payment memo and banking details for that jurisdiction
Send the wire from your bank using those details → Make sure your bank doesn't deduct its transfer fee from the amount, since that results in underpayment. Many tax authorities require payment before the return can be filed, so sending it promptly keeps your filing on schedule
Mark the payment as paid → Sending the wire isn't the last step. Once it's sent, download your payment confirmation, click Mark as paid on that payment, and enter the payment date, source currency and amount, and the amount paid in local currency, with your confirmation attached (PDF, JPG, or PNG)
🔴 Important: We send that confirmation to the tax authority to match your payment to your filing — we can't mark a manual payment as received without it, even if it already went through on your end.
Checking your payment status
Your dashboard shows the status of every international tax payment next to its filing, whether it was paid automatically through Settle or you approved and sent it yourself — you shouldn't need to check your bank or a tax authority's portal separately.
Status | What it means |
Completed | Your payment was submitted and accepted. For Settle payments, the transfer has settled. For manual payments, your confirmation was reviewed and accepted — that doesn't yet mean the tax authority has applied it; see below. |
Processing | Settle payments only. The payment is on its way but hasn't settled yet — normal, and it doesn't need any action from you within the window below. |
Failed | Something stopped the payment from going through and it needs a look — see below. |
How long "Processing" should take (Settle payments)
Settlement typically takes 5 to 7 business days, depending on the payment method and destination.
Within that window, no action is needed. Past it, reach out to your Numeral account team and we'll look into it.
If your payment shows as Failed
A failed payment usually means something prevented it from going through, such as insufficient funds in the connected account or a transfer rejected by your bank.
You don't need to diagnose the issue yourself. Contact us with the filing in question, and we'll identify the cause and either retry the payment or let you know what’s needed to resolve it. If a deadline is approaching, let us know so we can prioritize it.
The tax authority says they haven't received my payment
This can happen even when your dashboard shows the payment as completed.
It's usually one of two things:
The payment hasn't fully settled on the authority's side yet. If it was sent in the last 48 hours, it may still be in transit.
There's a mismatch between the payment reference and what the authority expects, which can make a received payment look unapplied on their end.
Either way, reach out with the notice you received — we can pull the payment reference, amount, and transfer date and give the tax authority what it needs to locate and match the payment.
Why the amount may differ slightly from what you expected
If your payment is funded and converted to local currency before it's sent, the amount the tax authority receives is in that local currency, which can differ slightly from a USD estimate you may have seen elsewhere.
That's not an error — the local-currency amount is what's applied to your filing, and it's what you should expect on any confirmation.
Why we recommend Settle
🟢 Once Settle is on, we handle sending, tracking, and confirming your international tax payments end to end. You don't submit a payment confirmation yourself, and you're protected from the biggest risk of manual payments: a payment that goes out but never gets matched to your filing.
Depending on the jurisdiction, that mismatch can mean penalties and interest — and for EU OSS filers specifically, repeated late or missed payments can mean exclusion from the OSS scheme and a waiting period before you can re-register.
Settle is also typically more affordable. Banks and traditional payment providers often charge explicit wire fees plus large markups on the exchange rate, and Settle is built to beat both.
And it's less manual work: without it, you're sending a separate wire for every jurisdiction you file in, which can add up to dozens of individually charged transfers, each one a chance for a wrong reference or a missed deadline. Settle replaces all of that with one connected account.
