If a sale's date in Numeral doesn't match what you see in your own platform, time zones are usually why. Numeral assigns every sale to the time zone of the tax authority it's filed with, not the time zone your platform happens to report in ā so a sale near midnight can land on a different day than you'd expect. This article explains why, and what time zone we use for each jurisdiction.
šµ This only changes which filing period a sale counts toward ā never how much tax is owed on it. A sale that shifts from March 31st to April 1st still gets taxed the same way; it just lands in a different month's filing.
Why this happens
Not every platform timestamps sales the same way ā some use the store's local time zone, some use UTC, some use the time zone of your Numeral account settings. Numeral doesn't use any of those. We align each sale to the time zone of the tax authority where the filing is due, since that's the time zone that actually determines which filing period a sale belongs to.
Example: say you make a sale at 11:30 PM Pacific on March 31st. If that sale is filed in a jurisdiction we track in Eastern time, it's already 2:30 AM on April 1st there ā so Numeral counts it toward April, even though your own platform (reporting in Pacific time) still shows it as a March sale.
Jurisdictions with more than one time zone
Some jurisdictions technically span more than one time zone ā Michigan and Indiana, for example. For consistency, we assign each jurisdiction a single time zone rather than splitting it by county or city, using the time zone below for every sale filed there.
